The Three Strand Cord

Ecclesiastes 4:12 "if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart." This blog is a forum for 3 of the Paris brothers to discuss stuff. Todd,
Obviously, if you have been following the facebook status, I either belive we should or are in a lot of trouble. We just completed a week long "media fast" where we endeavored to remove the excess media input into our lives and focus on Scripture, one anothers, etc.
I believe that fasting is a good endeavor. I believe that it might even help us to bring back some form of Baptist Lenten!
The first century church certainly practiced it, and they being closest to the genuine article, seem to give it (fasting) some credibility.
It is a tough sell to a fat dumb and happy US church though!
Here's some scripture:
Is it required for NT believers?
No (Matt. 9:14-15; Luk. 5:33-35)
Is it forbidden for NT believers?
No (Matt. 6:16-18 – when you fast…; Luk. 4:1-2; Acts 13:2-3, 14:23)
I have a ppt file with some more good stuff if you would like to have it! :)
Mike

"fasting was intended to create an ethical space in which the worshiper could be met by God." NIDOTTE, 3:782
